The Lord’s Battles
It says in 2 Chronicles 20:14-15, “Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. He said: Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: Do Not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours but God’s. Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz and you will find them at the end of the gorge of the desert of Jeruel. Take up your positions: stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.”
Listen folks, do not be afraid and do not be discouraged. I do not know what you have going on in your life, but I know the ONE who does! Often times, we take it upon ourselves to fight every single battle we face in life, when the Lord is clear in his word that some battles Israel had to face, did not belong to them, but belonged to the Lord. Likewise, there are going to be some battles you face in this life that belong to the Lord, and normally, it’s the battles you encounter in life that are completely out of your control and nothing you can really do about it.
Yet, notice God still commanded Israel that even though the battle they were facing against a vast army wasn’t theirs to fight, he still told them to take up positions, to march down to where they were, to stand firm, and to not be afraid. He didn’t tell them to coward away, or to run, but to remain faithful to God!
Essentially, when it comes to the many battles we encounter over the period of our life, the Word of God encourages us to be faithful to God, to trust him even in uncertain situations, and to not be afraid of your situations because you serve a God over your situations. Sometimes, you just have to let go and let God, and stop trying to fight your own battles, and discern which battles you encounter in your life that require the Lord’s intervention, not yours. At times, the only thing we need to do is be faithful to Him, put on the whole armor of God, stand firm, and be patient so that you can see God move in your own situations.
Obviously this requires a personal relationship with God, which I highly encourage each of you to prioritize because its not if the battle comes, but when the battle comes, will you have the Lord to fight some of the battles that don’t belong to you, but belong to Him????
Let us pray,
Thank you Lord for who you are, a God who is sovereign and a God who has intervened throughout human history to fight for your people against the enemy who was trying to destroy them. Thank you Father God that you are the same God that we get to pray to this morning who was fighting battles for Israel 3000 years ago. So, Lord, it’s not a coincidence that I am even sharing this devotion about some of the battles we encounter in our own lives that are not even ours, but yours. Help us Father God by your Spirit to draw closer to you in relationship so that you can give us discernment in which of those battles we are or we will encounter in our life that belong to you. Help us to stand firm, help us to remain faithful, help us to trust you, and help us to lean more upon you in whatever circumstances we face in our life.
Father, I know your people are going through some battles individually and I know we are facing some battles collectively as we continue to accomplish the overall task that you have given to us. Encourage us today Lord, to let go of some of those battles that weren’t meant for us to fight, help us to let go of some of those heavy burdens we have been carrying around way too long so that we can find rest and peace for our souls. Be with us today and forevermore! Grant us traveling mercies, protect our families while we are away from them, and may we never lose sight of the ultimate battle you fought for us through your One and Only Son Jesus Christ who bore our sin on the cross so that we may be set free for all of eternity, in Jesus holy name we pray, Amen!!
