Understanding How to Think Spiritually

Praise the Lord Everyone!

For those struggling with controlling their thoughts here go 7 verses of how we can think spiritually and how we can love God with all of our mind. Part of the reason many suffer from anxiety, worry, temptation, anger, PTSD, and fear is simply because of a lack of understanding that we have the power and ability to control every single thought that comes in and out of our minds. The advantage Christians have with overcoming “stinking-thinking” is being able to measure those thoughts with the Word of God and possessing the Holy Spirit. Please meditate on these verses of Scripture, begin to literally monitor your thoughts throughout the day, learn to change the channel to your mind just as you would change the channel to something you don’t like on TV, and measure your daily thoughts with the Word of God so you can differentiate between what’s holy and unholy. Controlling your thoughts:

1). “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Philippians 4:8-9 NIV

2). “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (meaning to make a complete renovation of the mind for the better). Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Romans 12:1-2 NIV

3). “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Colossians 3:1-2 NIV

4). “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 

*This is one of my favorite verses because it reminds us that we have the power “in Christ” to regulate, to evaluate, to monitor, and to control every single thought that comes in and out of your mind. The only way to counteract stinking thinking is with spiritual thinking. And the only way of achieving spiritual thinking is by knowing the Word of God! 

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

5). “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

Romans 8:5-6 NIV

6). “Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:13-15 NIV

7). “That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
